St. Kitts and Nevis, represented by Troy Nisbett and Skyla Connor along with national swim coach James Weeks, was at the CARIFTA 2024 Aquatics Championship, 28 March to 3 April in the Bahamas, a first for this young swim nation.
This Easter, over 500 athletes from 25 Caribbean nations were set to converge in a celebration of talent and sportsmanship at the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships.
The SKN team, led by the national swim coach, James Weeks, travelled to the Bahamas to represent the federation at this prestigious event. Troy and Skyla both qualified for the competition and it was the first time the federation was represented.
TROY NISBETT competed in the Male 13-14 age category in the following strokes/distances – Backstroke 50m, Freestyle 200m, 100m & 50m, and Breaststroke 100m & 50m
SKYLA CONNOR competed in the Female 11-12 age category in the following strokes/distances – Backstroke 50m, Freestyle 200m, 100m & 50m, Breaststroke 200m, 100m & 50m, and Butterfly 50m
Both swimmers brought home Personal Bests in several events and the experience gained was invaluable! Our swim federations continue to work with our young swimmers to prepare them for competitions like this.
The CARIFTA Aquatics Championship is an international age-group competition that brings together athletes from across the Caribbean to compete in various aquatic disciplines. It stands as a testament to the rich sporting culture of the Caribbean and its commitment to fostering athletic talent and sportsmanship among its youth.
